Your Consultation with Dr. Lampert
Dr. Lampert will carefully evaluate your facial structures, the elasticity of your skin and other factors during your initial consultation. After learning about your goals, he will make his recommendation. A brow lift may not be the best option for those with signs of aging localized to the lower face (i.e. pronounced lines running from the nose to the mouth or significant skin laxity drooping over the lower face or mid-face regions). For many, a brow lift will achieve rejuvenation of the upper face and the youthful expression that is being sought. The results of brow lift surgery will be noticeable within a few short weeks.
Brow Lift Procedure
A variety of techniques can be used to lift and rejuvenate the brow. Dr. Lampert will recommend specific techniques depending on the patient’s hairline, eyebrow thickness, and brow ptosis (or droop). Small incisions will be made in the hairline to hide any scars. An endoscope may be used to adjust and tighten the underlying tissues. If there are significant furrows and the sagging is more pronounced, the procedure may involve a larger incision behind the hairline or on the verge of the hairline margin. Mild brow droop can sometimes be corrected with fine incisional techniques though scars hidden in the upper eyelid creases or along the eyebrow hairline margins if the patient has thick eyebrows.
Recovery from Brow Surgery
Dr. Lampert will tape and bandage your incisions in such a way as to minimize swelling and bruising. In some cases, there may be a thin drainage tube placed to drain excess fluid. With more extensive brow lifts, drains can help minimizes some swelling, bruising and help promote proper healing. Pain medication will be prescribed to keep you comfortable. You will leave with full instructions concerning care for the incisions, how to bathe, when to return for follow up and what to be aware of concerning any unlikely complications.
The incisions will take approximately 2 weeks to heal and any swelling or bruising should be reduced so that your incisions will be visible only under close examination.
Typically, social activities can be resumed without concern by this time. Any remaining bruising can be masked with cosmetics. Keep hydrated and get adequate rest, especially during the initial healing period. You will need to keep your head elevated for a number of days which will require sleeping slightly propped up with pillows.
Minimizing scarring depends on the proper care of the incisions. It is very important to avoid using any kind of force or abrasion on the surgical site. Dr. Lampert will provide explicit instructions on how to care for the surgical site and the incisions. The best results will be achieved by following them carefully.
Miami brow lift patients can typically return to work in 2 weeks, but should postpone any strenuous physical activity for 6-8 weeks.
Any facial plastic surgery takes months to fully heal and settle. You will look very presentable within a few weeks, but be patient. The full result will be seen over the next several months. Scars continue to mature, fade, and soften over the course of the year.
