Ear Lobe Repair and Ear Reconstruction
From Dr. Lampert:
Keloids After Ear Piercings Aren’t Easy to Treat. Sometimes the surgery is the easiest part. Some people have a genetic predisposition to form bad scars and keloids.
Even the smallest of cuts or an ear piercing can create big problems in Keloid prone patients. They have a very high rate of recurrence, despite best surgical efforts.
Steroid and chemotherapy injections can sometimes help. For keloids like this, I send the patient directly to the radiation oncologist right after surgery for external beam radiation. This has been found to most decrease the recurrence rate.
Hopefully these keloids never come back!
