From Dr. Lampert:
Blepharoplasty is plastic surgery of the eyelids. This 66 year old female is shown 5 months postop after upper blepharoplasty. She used to complain of looking sleepy even when she was wide awake! The hooded extra upper eyelid skin made her not only look tired, but also obstructed her vision. She had upper eyelid blepharoplasty surgery only. The lower eyelids were not treated. Though this particular patient's upper eyelid problem was considered cosmetic, some upper eyelid droop or ptosis can be covered by certain health insurance policies depending on the specific plan and the degree of visual field obstruction. On the contrary, lower blepharoplasty is almost never covered by health insurance, except for severe ectropion or in major reconstructive cases. This patient's surgery involved mostly skin resection with little fat and was performed as an office based surgery.
