From Dr. Lampert:
Otoplasty: Plastic Surgery of the Ears. 1 month postop after an otoplasty (or ear pinning). This 13 year old young gentleman complained of his “over projected” ears. He desired surgical correction. He had the entire surgery performed under local anesthesia, without sedation. (The ear is remarkably easy to “block” with a small numbing injection). All ears are different, but prominent ears often have an enlarged segment of cartilage called the conchal bowl and a poorly defined anti helix. Cartilage is shaped with sutures and the scalpel. Often some skin behind the ear is excised as well. I have my patients wear a head band after surgery to help splint the ears in position while they heal.
