From Dr. Lampert:
Ear prominence, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder” - Melvin Spira MD. Otoplasty: 1.5 months postop after an otoplasty (or ear pinning). This young lady complained of the “over projection” of her ears and had desired surgical correction since she was 8 years old. All ears are different, but prominent ears often have an enlarged segment of cartilage called the conchal bowl and a poorly defined anti helix. Cartilage is shaped with sutures and the scalpel. Often some skin behind the ear is excised as well. I have my patients wear a head band after surgery to splint the ears in position.
