From Dr. Lampert:
Dorsal Hump Reduction With Septoplasty
This patient had problems breathing out of her nose due to her deviated septum. She also always wanted to refine the bump on her nasal bridge. I always encourage functional nasal airway patients to consider any potential aesthetic changes. If patients want a change, rhinoplasty procedures are typically easier when performed at the same time as the septoplasty (septorhinoplasty). Some of the cartilage from the septoplasty can be used to help straighten and refine the nose. If a patient has a septoplasty prior to having a rhinoplasty, it can often make the second surgery much more difficult. If a cartilage resection was performed during a septoplasty prior, cartilage harvest from the rib or ear will more likely be necessary with a subsequent operation. Additionally, scar tissue makes a second operation more difficult.
